The Pattern Nobody Talks About
Sun Oct 11, 2026
It's 11:40 at night. Everyone at home is in their room, going to bed. And you are typing a question into your phone that you would never say out loud: why can't I achieve my goals?
You're not lazy, you are not incapable. You're the one everyone calls when something needs to get done. That's exactly why this question stings.
Monday. The office report goes in before the deadline. You reply on the family WhatsApp group, book the train tickets for your cousin's wedding, and remind your mother about her doctor's appointment.
At 9 pm, you're out buying a chart paper for your child's project due tomorrow. By the time the kitchen is clean, it's late. Then you open the notebook.
Inside your notebook is your own goal. The course you enrolled in in January. The book you want to write. The small business idea. The walk you promised yourself. You look at it, close it, and think, "Kal se, pakka."
Most capable people respond to this the same way. A new planner. A new app. A 5 am alarm. A fresh start on the first of the month.
It works for a week, maybe two. Then a family function comes up, a deadline moves, someone needs you. Your goal slides back to "later" without a single conversation about it.
This is the real cost. Years go into fixing the surface, while the pattern underneath stays exactly how it was.
And your goals don't fail loudly. They get postponed politely. The course sits at 40 percent. The idea stays in the notebook. The plan is always "once things settle down".
Slowly, a thought creeps in: "Maybe I'm just not the type who finishes things." You start and stop, overthink, lose steam halfway. And each unfinished goal becomes more proof for that story, even though your whole life shows the opposite.
A pattern I often see in capable people is arising from one quiet belief: "If I just try harder, it will change."
It makes sense. Trying harder has worked for you all your life. It got you through exams, jobs, family responsibilities and every crisis that landed on your plate.
But look closely at where that effort goes. It flows easily towards what others need, because somewhere along the way you may have learned that being dependable is what makes you valued. Your own needs could wait. "Who am I to ask?" became a habit before it became a thought.
So when your own goal gets delayed, you push more. And it still delays. That's not a discipline problem. Effort was never the missing piece. Effort is your strength.
What your own goals ask for is something different. They ask you to show up for yourself the way you show up for others. You are worth keeping promises to.
The part of you that went quiet
There is a part of you that once said, "I want this, for me." It had dreams that had nothing to do with anyone else's schedule.
Over time, it learned to speak more softly. "It's fine." "I can manage." "I'll rest later." Eventually, it stopped asking at all.
It didn't disappear. It is very much present. It just went quiet. And here's what matters: this is often the very part that would carry your goal to the finish line.
When you start something that you are passionate about - with excitement but quit halfway through, it isn't because you lack the skill. The quitting happens because the real you—the part with your true passions and desires— never continued in the plan.
In my work, I use the seven chakras as a lens. Not as a diagnosis, but as a map of where a pattern like this may be held. This week, we look at all seven, because a pattern that touches your goals rarely sits in just one place.
The pattern may be held in one of these, or across a few. Nothing here is "wrong" with you. The map simply shows where it may be worth looking closely.
What if the problem was never your effort?
Try this 2-minute reflection tonight. Make yourself a cup of chai, put your phone face down, and sit somewhere quiet.
Don't fix anything yet. Don't make a new plan. Just see what's there. Seeing it clearly is the first step. This is the step that opens the door to awareness.
If this feeling of being stuck comes with a low mood or heaviness that has stayed for weeks, please also speak to a doctor or therapist. You deserve that support too.
